failure

I read this and thought there was a grain of truth in his comments and examples. I have taken classes that were pass/fail- you did it and did it well or you failed. Any comment.

That's really hard to read. It's all smushed together. Yes, I have heard from word-of-mouth about these pass/fail classes. Have I taken any? Dude, I think I'm in one NOW! 7th hour : the highlight of my day. I really don't understand these classes. Why do people actually have these classes? Do teachers honestly like failing/passing students? What are their incentives on deciding this?

I think classes should be based on how hard students work. If I ever became a teacher, I honestly don't believe I would give quizzes/tests. Students don't learn from tests, therefore harming their future test scores such as the ACT because they didn't retain anything they learned from previous tests. And this is especially true for me. Students learn the info just for the test, and then taht information disappears. And I really hate classes like that. I honestly believe that all students have the potential and ability to do well, but with classes like pass/fail, why would they even try? I"m not trying in my 7th hour, and I'm feeling it with F's. School sucks =P

Literally.

I agree with most of their opinions. I believe students should be told when they are failing, and teachers shouldn't just let them off easy, especially if they are in a certain sport or in a certain club. Honesty is very important. If a student is failing, I think the teacher should sit down with the student and/or the student's parent(s) and talk about what they can do to pass the class. Sometimes that is all it takes to turn someone around. Telling the student what all could happen may have a big impact on their performance in the class too. Some students don't really realize that if they fail that class, they may not get to graduate with their class.

Very interesting website...this will take some thought...hmm...OK well Although I agree that the real world is a pass/fail class, I'm not sure about school being one, because we are supposed to be learning how to do everything correctly and if we get no reasurance with our critisism we will not know what we did correctly and what we did incorectly. Wow that was a run on sentence sorry.

Pass fail classes in my opinion are not welcome. They make the smart kids smarter and the not so smart kids more frustrated with themselves. A pass fail class that I am is AP U.S. History. You either pass it, barely, or fail it miserably. These kinds of classes make people lose sleep...literally. When we are sleep deprived already form other loads of homework, why add more on? It makes life so stressful and what do you get out of it? Failure.
