Students are not who we think they are

Read this blog and pay special attention to the paragraph with the bold words in it. Any thoughts? Is he right?

You can find that type of dilemma no matter where you are in life. Yes, there are many students that can fake you out by the way they act in front of you, only to find the truth isn't so remarkable. Every once and awhile I hear kids talking about a teacher and these kids are generally well-behaved, respectable people. But as the blog said, you never know what you are going to get...because students are not who teachers think they are.

Wow, makes me wonder what types of students are in my classroom!! How many of them are "faking" me out?

Yes it is totally true. It happens all the time, and as Randall said alot of the good or well behaved kids are totally different when it comes to other people. If students dont do things to fit in their life in school becomes hell. Its almost a way of socialization.

Mrs. Hansen nobody fakes you out because the only thing anyone complains about it your homework cough cough, but everyone does that to you in class so you pretty much see people how they really are, well at least in our class i guess.

I agree with both of these guys. I often hear students in the hallways talking about teachers because they make them mad that day or any other reason. Students are definetly not who teachers think they are in the classroom because when they are around their friends everyone changes. Most of this behavior is probably just to fit in but i dont blame any student at redfield for not having this desire. When someone doesn't fit in the 'consequences' if thats what you want to call it isn't pleasant. All the teasing and bullying that goes on could someday push student too far.

I agree, students do what it takes to be popular because if you're not popular you are most likely made fun of. No one wants that in life and so they choose the "solution" to what can make them fit in. Students are definately not who they appear.

I'm sure that there are people out there that feel good making fun of other people, such as teachers and other students. The only way to survive in this world is to be like, right?

WRONG. But guess some people don't realize that. I can honestly say that I too have slammed teachers behind their backs, but not to impress anyone. Mainly as a way to release stress..anger...ESPECIALLY anger...But I'd have to say that most students, especially here, fake out.

I also agree that a lot of students just act like they do in class to be liked or to fit in. Ill admit that i probably do it sometimes. If you dont fit in then school is just not fun. Yes, some teachers do make you mad, but its not because they dont like you they just want to see you succeed.

Pssh, try telling that to my 4th hour teacher last semester Drew! She'd laugh in your face!

This is very true. I admit that I am not at all what teachers perceive me to be when I am around other people. I am just as naughty as the people who are stupid, or should I say, not smart enough to not do it in class, out of class, but I do know when to turn on the charm. lol. Like sarah said, we do this to fit in. Everyone has that desire, even teachers sometimes.

I agree with Randall. Most kids do fake you out in front of you bacause all of us can speak for each other we all act different out of school than we do in school. Many kids do it because it is only for the attention they get. Some are just because the want to sound smarter or shy. But really they are really not out side of school.

Have you ever heard of the term two faced...well alot of kids are towards teachers they say one thing about them and then they bash them another time. I admit i have done that a time or two but only to a certain extent. If you dont say funny things or do something bad, then to some kids you just arent accepted with them. It is completely true that kids arent who they appear!

I don't know what the big deal is about "fitting in" yet. I think that you should do whatever you want, why follow someone else's standards? I don't want to live my life in a cloud following and copying what others are doing my entire life. I guess I've seen a lot of stuff on Facebook and what not, but oh well. Teachers do it too. You can't go and bash the students about it and then sit there and watch the teachers talk about students behind their backs. There's numerous times of the day where I see someone walk by a few teachers and they whisper back and forth about them. Some teachers even talk about their students in class. Real mature. I don't think teachers have the right to complain when they do the same kinda thing.

I believe that students act differently outside of school than they do in the classroom. The environment in the classroom is different than it is when you are hanging out with your friends. Yeah, your friends may be in the classroom, but some kids take it more seriously than others. It makes my stomach sick when i see someone acting totally fake just to get on a teacher's good side when you really know that they have said something bad behind their back. Like even when they talk bad about a coach and say mean things to him and then are nice to this face just so that they can get a spot or playing time. Its annoying

The Internet is basically a wall between reality and your thoughts. If a student were to say these comments in front of a teacher, there would most likely be consequences. Should students be able to speak their mind in real life like they do on the Internet.. or not? Authority is over-used.

I agree that many students act differently in class compared to at home. I often hear students talking about how teachers make them mad, but they usually do it so they fit in and aren't made fun of, especially if it is a disliked teacher by certain peers.

Every place in this world has this problem. There are kids who will do stuff when people are not around but will not do it when there is someone around. There are also some people who will do dumb and disgusting stuff all the time. This is a huge problem in schools. There are many people in this school who are the same way. Yes, i know sometimes i am but i try not to.

There are alot of people out there that will do stuff behind your back even if you dont think that they will do it. They do. The thing is that they will say something nice about you then they will go and do something stupid and then it will make you think twice when you go and say something nice about someone and the outcome of what you said may come back and bit you in the a**

It kind of pisses me off to think about that because it is completely true. People are almost never exactly who you think they are. I have major trust issues myself with this. I am always worried that when I am in a close friendship or any type of relationship that I will find out that everything that I thought was real was really just a lie. I just hope that I am who people think I am and that that is a good thing.

Like drew said if you dont fit in school is no fun. I don't think people talk to much trash about teachers and if they do more power to them, the teachers are there to make us get a better education and move on with our lives..

this is bad I mean some teachers have their days when they can be crabby but others times their doing it to push us to get down. Who doesn't want to be in the "POPULAR" crowd, everybody tries now ant then. I don't think that I would waste my time doing that kind of stuff. what good does it do you, nothing, these kids need to join some extracurricular activities or something like that. But there is going to be no way to stop because they do it off school grounds.

Anonymous said...

i belive this is true because like here in school if your not the same as every one they will call you gay or weird and in some way you have to a fake so you wont be picked on

Anonymous said...

I completely agree with that blog. Students will do ANYthing to be popular. Half of the time, teachers and parents don't know what goes on between students. Being popular is one of the biggest things a kid wants to be in Junior High/High School. Some students are willing do anything just to hang out with the "popular" crowd.

i think that when teachers and grown ups are around kids dont act like they would wen noone is by them.

This does seem like a common problem that is on the rise with students who have Facebook or MySpace. Not only is it disrespectul to post such things on the internet, but it can also scare those teachers to the point where that student could possibly get into trouble for it. I would just have to say that eveyone should be smart about the things they say on Facebook or MySpace
