Laltely, I have been reading about multi-tasking, especially about texting while driving. Several states have passed laws banning the use of cell phones while driving. High schoolers seem to live lives full of multitasking and for some it seems to work? Can one multi-task and still be efficient?

My opinion on this matter may be slightly biased because I don't actually own a cell phone of my own, but I don't think there is anything so important that you can't wait until you have stopped the vehicle to tell someone whatever it is that is blowing you mind. Especially around here nothing is ever more than a ten minute drive, so I have to ask why it is that today's youth can't bear to lose contact with their social networks for ten little minutes out of their days. Our society as a whole is far too reliant upon their cell phones to keep in contact with all of their family and friends. Now don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with using cell phones; I, myself openly admit to using one for at least an hour every day. But when an obsession with this bit of technology crosses the line from fun and harmless to an attention suck and being dangerous to yourself and everyone else around you, we've got a problem. They truly are a driving hazard because how focused can you be on driving when you are dealing with your best friend's latest crisis?
Well I’m not the guy who’s big on the multitasking but when it comes to teens and some adults to texting and driving I can be really annoyed. For the simple fact is that one of my friends does that and I know you can’t multi-task because he stares at the phone then the road while in cruise control so he’s not multitasking. But he’s not paying attention to the road either which could cause accidents and I know his girl nags on him for that. It’s bad plus I can see it becoming one of the few top killers in the United States. Plus teen always got to have their phones to get the latest updates and trust me they aren’t going to disappear for a long time I have a phone and I’m not that addicted to it and I try not to take it to school so to sum all things up with the multitasking, texting, and teens addicted to their phones they can wait there only a few minutes away from home. A pretty good saying with this is “what you don’t know won’t kill you”.
I believe that multi-tasking is both fact and fiction because some people can do it and others just can't. To be honest I text and drive quite often not even thinking anything about it so to me it is normal to multi-task. There are others things that I can't multi-task like talking and texting, or watching tv while trying to read. My opinion is that people know when they should be texting while driving, and when they shouldn't be. If you can text while not looking down and still pay perfect attention to the road then your not hurting anything, but if you look down even for a second and loose track of the road, it could end badly.
Personally, I feel that you can't multitask especially with texting while driving. From my own experience, if I'm texting and making sure that I'm sayin exactly what I want in that text message, I'm not concentrating on the road and could easily get into an accident and if I'm texting, but paying more attention to the road, sometimes my text messages are completely different than what I meant to type. Some people may think they can multi-task and maybe they can, but it isn't as good as it could be if they just did one thing at a time even if it took more time.
I think that being able to multi-task productively depends on the person and on the person’s abilities. I can't do homework and listen to music simultaneously because my brain focuses on the music and I get off track extremely easily. I know that I can't text without looking down at my keyboard, so I wouldn't be able to drive safely while texting, but on the other hand, I have a friend who is a great multi-tasker and can text while riding a bicycle. Personally, if I want to accomplish something well I cannot multi-task. Doing jobs individually increases the chance of it being done successfully. I prefer not to multi-task because it makes me feel rushed and stressed out.
I own a cell phone and i have a car, but i have never tried to text and drive at the same time, that is one thing i will never be good at.I have seen people drive and text at the same time without giving so much as a glimse at their cell phones. In my opinion i think that one can multi-task but their task will never be done as good as if they just did one at a time. I also think though that multi-tasking is fiction because nobody ever multi-task the big project. Think about watching a movie and reading, there is no way on this green earth that i could ever do that at the same time. I would just drop the book and watch the movie, and i bet other people would choose differenty. But there is no way you could comprehend both at the same time.
overall I think you could multi-task small projects but nothing big.
I recently got a cell phone as a Christmas present. In my personal opinion I think that multi-tasking can go both ways. I believe that some people may have the ability to do what others cannot which makes everyone different. Thus, some people may be able to text while driving while people, like me, can't. I am amazed at how many deaths a year come from accidents that involve people who text. Something as little as texting a friend, "hey" should be able to wait. Texting while driving is an act that I would consider selfish. Taking the risk to text while driving is taking life for granted. If you knew you could die doing something that can be prevented, would you do it?
I guess you can call me a hypocrite, i hate it when people text or talk on the phone while driving or texting well talking to people. I often find myself doing all of that. Multi-tasking seems to work for some and others they should never do it. People Multi-task in good ways like doing to NON LIFE THEATINING things but find them selfs falling. In my Opinion to many people malti task in a bad way.
I remember us writing a journal prompt about something like this. We were talking about the bill where only people 18 and under couldn't use cell phones while driving. Personally, I think that is TOTALLY unfair because it isn't just teens who have accidents while using they phones while driving and I don't think that it is fair, or right, to just make that law pertain to us. I personally do not think it is good for people to text while driving, but I know a lot of people do. It is hazzardous and people shouldn't do it. Multitasking seems overly common these days, but I still don't believe multitasking should occur when you are driving. When people do text and drive, they are putting others at risk as well as themselves...
From a personal stand-point, I think that every time I try to multitask I just get super flustered and, surprise, things dont get done as well as they should be; and if something is going to be done, it should be done right. Cell phones have paid a huge contribution to the error in multi-tasking. Most people, with their obsession with constant communication, will text while doing, well, everything. This has caused our generation decline in valued work ethic. So, really, if you have enough self control and ambition, you could take the work force by storm.
And, in retrospect (do I get extra points for vocab usage?), does multi-tasking really get things done quicker? If you focus on one job at a time, you'll find they actually do get done as quickly if not quicker, and more efficiantly.
For those who text and drive: whoever it is, can wait. They can either wait a few minutes or however long for you to reply,or they can spend hours visiting you in the hospital. Even just calling them (ya, I know, nobody does THAT anymore)would increase safety a whole lot.
So, really, is multi-tasking worth it?
When i think of multi-tasting, i think of a mother who is folding clothes, talking on the phone, and rocking her baby at the same time. Women, in particular busy mothers, are about the only people who can or are good at multi- tasking. I will admit women can multi- task much better than men. Constantly texting while driving is not multi-tasking, it is just plain stupid. Teens have enough trouble driving as it is because they are usually focused on everything else.
I believe multi-tasking is fact to some and fiction to others. Personally, I have trouble multi-tasking, so I choose not to do it whenever possible. But I have seen many people who are nearly experts at it. My father for instance, can talk on a phone and take a customers order while at the same time cook 3 other orders! Yet, he and people like him, aren't just born good at it. I believe like anything else, multi-tasking is perfected through practice. And if one is to become good at multi-tasking, I believe it to be a very helpful tool.
Well, In my opinion you can multi-taks, but you cant do each task very well. I guess it sort of depends on what it is actually. For example, if you talk on the phone and brush your hair. I dont know about any one else, but I know that I can talk on the phone and brush my hair. There is a simple way to do that. With the advanced technology, some phones have speaker phone so you can set the phone down, talk, and brush your hair at the same time. There are certain things that you cant multi-task. For instance, the whole texting and driving thing. Thats just dangerous. I've been in cars with people who have texted and drove at the same time. They even do it if its dark outside. When ever they do that it makes me want to tell them to keep their eyes on the road or Ill just grab the steering wheel and take over till they are done texting.
I truthfully believe that you can in fact multi-task, you just have to learn how to do it well. Most people can't do it well, but there are a certain few who have mastered the craft. I think that our school is overloading us with homework and other activities so we pretty much don't even have a choice but to multi-task. I end up doing like three assignments at once while trying to grab a quick bite to eat while trying to stay awake. It is very hard, but it is my life and i am just going to have to get used to it.
Multi-tasking is important in today's never-to-cease-the-movement society. The ever so dangerous act of multi-tasking while driving, does pose as a problem. The adolesence in our world today aren't suited to be texting and driving. Not many of us hold the attention span to do it. I will admit that I do the occasional text as I drive, and I completely understand the consequences, yet I, like many others, still do it. Multi-tasking is necessary to function honestly. Some is more dangerous than others, and I do think that you should think before you do it.
I believe you can multi-task, but you can’t do both things well. I usually text when I drive and I’m pretty good at it, but at the same time it’s not the safest thing to do because you can swerve into the other lane. I do it basically because there is no one on the roads I drive on and because I can text and drive without crashing into someone. I can also multi-task by talking and listening, even though most teachers think you can’t, but you actually can. I multi-task quite a bit and I find that it takes longer to get homework and other things done. I do it though because it makes what you’re doing more interesting and entertaining. Texting and driving is a really dangerous thing though, and I only do it when I’m out in the boonies going to my house.
