Read this blog entry and the linked article. Why do kids lie? How should parents and teachers handle it? What does it show about high school and the students it creates? Thoughts?
Why do kids lie? Well, they do not want to get in troble, but it usually gets you in touble anyways. One little lie creats a bigger lie. I always lied to my parents becuase I didn't want to do something or I didn't want to get in trouble.
they lie to escape the reality of the truth....the truth scares them and they find comfort in their lies...it's their home, their little comfort place. the truth is almost their hell while the lies are their heaven....their mother and father. the lies make them feel alive, give them passion...while some people just lie for the heck of it.......like people such as...well i don't want to name names....they might think i'm lying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why do kids lie? -For attention mainly. Sure they don't want to get into trouble, but they do it for attention in my book. -Maybe for a thrill or a sense of adventure. Getting away with a lie is kinda exciting (depending on the lie), but lying is a good way to feel light...?
I don't know. I lie to my parents, just not as much as I used to. Maybe it's just because I'm "a rebel without a cause" but I think it's more along the lines of me being a teenager. Teens have RAGING hormones so lying is just one of those amazing little perks of being a teen...and I guess an adolescent.
So should parents just expect and accept that their kids lie and do nothing about it? Should teachers not deal with it? What is that teaching kids? Should liars who are caught be punished?
We always lie, i mean come on it seems like it is just printed in our genes when we are popped out. To not get into trouble, or to not have to do something unpleasant is two of the major things that pop into my head when i think about why we lie. Parents should definately take some action, but i mean seriously, do you really think that there isn't a student that doesn't lie? If you do, who are you kidding, maybe you are living in denial, but wake up and smell the coffee!! I think it shows that we are sneaky when it comes to lying, but we do it too often, who knows. Maybe it is just one of those little perks that us kids have.
Most kids will say that they lie because they 'don't want to get in trouble.' I believe kids lie because telling the truth is too difficult and is the right thing to do. Kids are known for taking the 'easy way out.' They think it's so much easier to lie than to tell the truth. I myself can agree with that, but I have learned over the years that truth always prevails and things always turn out for the better when you tell the truth.
-So they dont have to face the consequences. If they did something they know they shouldnt have but did it anyways and they were caught, they might lie. -To get attention. -i have lied to my parents before and i felt the guilt and i have learned lying doesnt get you out of trouble, in fact, it may get you into more trouble.
Its just not kids that lie. I think that some adults lie more than kids. I think that if parents wouldn't be against so many things that the kids wouldn't have to lie to get out of trouble. I am not saying that it is okay to lie, but maybe parents should be more open to the truth; even if the truth isn't what they want to hear.
Well what are teachers supposed to do? If you can tell me something constructive that a teacher can do as a form of punishment, I won't post on here for the rest of the year. That's a promise ^_^
Parents, on the other hand, have more of an effect on a child than a teacher. We're supposed to look up to our parents, but if they act just as immature as we do and they lie to us, what are we learning? Some people grow up around parents who lie to them just to make them feel better, but what's that teaching us?
Hmm...my mind is elsewhere tonight, but before I retire off here for the night, I do have a bit of an issue with Brooke's post. Can you actually prove to me that lying is in our genes? I myself believe that people lie b/c of the environment around them, whether it be people or just an object....okay, let's make some sense here....let's say you're a...hmm...Amish kid okay? You grow up in a world where everyone is not only strange (haha no offense to anyone..it's just one of my freaky beliefs) but no one lies... Actually I don't know that, I'm assuming it.
They grow up knowing that lying is a deadly sin, which it is. That's what we're lacking. Maybe it's because our community has a lack of faith and we're becoming Satanists....we better run for our umbrellas.
Okay, .....I kinda drifted off to another website, so I forgot what I was even ranting about in the first place XD
