blog. What does this say about the gap between the digital natives (those 25 and under) and the digital immigrants (those 30 and older)? Do teachers, administrators and staff really understand the
importance placed on technology by the students who use it?

I think that teachers know more about it than alot of other people 30 and over. They deal with it everyday, and being around so many kids they are almost forced to figured out technology. Kids would get board if all that was done was write on a chalk board or white board. Teachers have to attend all of those confrences on technology too so they learn about it their.
Teachers and administrators should learn more about the importance of technology and how it could help and improve the work of students in school. Administrators always look at the bad end of technology like texting, looking up inappropriate pictures, and so on. They don't consider the goodness that students and teachers could recieve from technology. Think if we had laptops...the school would save so much paper because we could email our assignments instead of printing them. In college, aren't basically all assignments done on computers and laptops? I think we should get more in touch with technology as students in high school so when we get to college we could benefit. I think the school needs a technology boost pretty soon because it would benefit both teachers and students. It would be less work and struggle for everyone, not to mention in the long run less money.

Uh....okay?
Anyhow, to answer the blog, I think teachers (especially the ones here) are pretty caught up with technology. It's basically a must for their job. But with the given blog, I'll have to side with "John." He needed help on his homework, but there was no other way.
Maybe schools should be a bit more lenient with cell phones. Sure you can't prevent texting, but can you not hear it? Even on vibrate you can hear it against the chair or what not. Wow, I feel like I'm accomplishing nothing....
Basically the generation gap between teachers and their students is just too big to have any affect (is it effect? I hate these two words >.< ) on the technology we use today in our school systems.
Teachers should be made to take a class on modern technology. Including i-pods and cell phones. I mean now you can download notes for Shakespeare onto your ipod! How sweet is that!? But teachers won't let us use them during tests, ahem Mrs. Hansen. I mean they do go to all these seminars and summer school to learn about them right? Why not let us use them? Teachers probably know more about cell phones and ipods than the "digital immigrants" as you call them because they are around them everyday. They should know that almost everybody uses their cell phone during class. Fix this or it is going to go out of control with the points and saturday school. I mean everybody does it, so why not just allow it?
So what technology would you like to see teachers use more often or allow you to use?
I think teachers know a LOT more than their fellow age groups. They pretty much have to because teaching nowadays requires doing new things, you can't just sit there and give notes all the time...nobody will pay attention or listen to you. If you think it's bad now, think about excluding the computer. It would be 50x worse! I think others should take classes dealing with technology, that way they don't sit and whine about how they don't know how to use things. That's ignorance if you ask me. It's right there in front of you...why not do it?
I think laptops should be initiated into our school in the upcoming years, then you won't need computer labs...there will be plenty of room and now more rooms to teach in. Having laptops I think would get rid of a lot of cheating. You can't copy someone else's answers on a laptop...especially if it's a different test with a different order of questions.
I also think that cell phones should be allowed. I don't think that they're really that much of a hassle. So the kids don't listen during class...that's not your fault. It is their problem. Make them deal with the consequences. There could be times where you tell them to put it away, then after that if they don't listen, give them points. I don't think that cell phones are really all that bad. If they are worried about cheating, switch up tests and give different ones - you can't really cheat very well then.
Cell phones would be a good tool to have for students though out the day. they need to be put away during test other wise it is what your notes know or what someone else knows and not yourself. lab tops would be great to have in school. kids could do there homework on it and then e-mail it to their teacher when they got done. it would save s ton of paper and a lot of time for students too. why do you think we went from writing on a chalk board to writing with erasable markers..its easer and not much more but more advanced.

I think that some teachers are starting to understand the importance and improvements in technology, but some still don't. They go to classes and meetings and learn about advancement in technology, but we still aren't allowed to use them. Laptops would be a good improvement for our school because it would allow students to email teachers when they need help and can do that at home when it is hard for them to find time durring the day. It would also save on paper and wouldn't involve so many books.
Laptops would be a great idea for students considering it'd save time, paper, and cramped hands. And besides, who doesn't love the sound of someone typing? Besides me of course...
Anywho, no, cell phones shouldn't be allowed. Okay, what good are cell phones to students if they have laptops with internet connection? I do say that we should get to use them during lunch/homeroom and study halls as long as they're not a distraction. But in class? Come on! What good are they? They serve absolutley no purpose, that's what.
First of all, wow how dumb must you be to text a teacher during school, unbelievable. Anyway this happens quite a bit, with kids way ahead of the adults in technology. But i think the gap is shrinking everyday. Young people are getting their parents, coworkers, coaches, and teachers more involved in the texting process.
Teachers know a lot more about technology than we think. Each day they have to deal with kids doing something against the rules like texting during school. They also have to take classes to keep up to date with technology so that helps too. But pretty soon I don't think that there will be much of a gap since older people are getting in touch with technology too.
