ESPN just reports about a state supreme court ruling about cheerleading. This, I believe, officially puts to end the debate about whether cheerleading is a sport.

I'd read about it, but everytime I attempt to, it freezes my computer up >.> So sure. I think cheerleading is a sport, always have and always will. So woot for them finally realizing that cheerleading IS a sport =]
I agree with Ashley that cheerleading is a sport because they cheer in compeitions. Many cheerleaders have been getting hurt seriously now a days. When I was a little girl I wanted to be a cheerleader because it looked fun to cheer on the team.
I also think cheerleading is a sport. I think it always has been. They work just as hard as other sports if not hard because they have to be strong enough to lift each other. The compete which would be the same as any other sport and the cheer or "play" there sport at other sports events.
I also agree that cheerleading is a sport! I've been cheering since the 8th grade and when you cheer yourself, you realize how much energy and work it actually takes. When some of the guys in our school joined the co-ed competition cheerleading squad, they came in thinking it would be easy, but after their first practice, they actually realized why we were so defensive when people told us that cheerleading wasn't a sport. They were quite sweaty and the next day they came complaining to us that they were sore. So yes i do believe that competition cheerleading is a contact sport.
