Unmotivated students and teachers calling them on it

A Philadelphia teacher recently vented about her students in her blog and was then suspended. The topic of unmotivated and lazy students is discussed in this article. What do you think about what this teacher did? What is the cause of the unmotivated students?

I honestly think that what the teacher wrote about the students is wrong. Yes, sometimes we get lazy, but a teacher shouldn't write about it in a blog. If a teacher ever wrote that about our grade, or just me in general, I would probably be kind of mad, because I know that it's somewhat true, and I would also be mad because that's pretty rude to call someone lazy and who knows what else in a blog. And I don't understand why the teacher that got suspended is taking the school to court, because she deserves to be fired for what she did. I know that if a teacher at our school did something like this, that wouldn't be very good! But, I know that none of our teachers would ever do something like this, because all of the teachers at our school are nice people!

I feel as though the teacher shouldn't be punished for what she blogged. I feel this way because we blog about disliking school and disliking teachers, yet we never get a punishment. I believe that the teacher should have a simple warning and that they should continue on with their daily lives. I believe that the school should take her blogs into consideration and possibly make some changes to how they run the school. I believe that the cause of unmotivated students is we don't understand where the topics learned are supposed to be applied in life. I think that we become unmotivated at school because we get tired of sitting in a classroom all day. Maybe if the topics were presented to us differently or in a more exciting format, we wouldn't be as lazy.

This teacher should not be as harshly punished as they have punished her. I can see where the high school is coming from, but there are multiple students that post comments just as harsh, maybe even worse, on their facebook wall or MySpace page. i think people get easily frustrated with the people they work for or with everyday. As a teacher, I would be just as mad as this teacher, because you can only ask a person to do something so many times before you can't and won’t say it again. I think students get unmotivated because they get uninterested in a topic, because it’s not the latest gossip in school. Also because, as Billie Jo said, it may be being presented in a way that is not fun and amusing to students.

I think that this teacher went way to far on what she said about those students. The students may not be as motivated as they should be, but that doesn't neccesarily mean that they are really lazy. Of course this teacher could motivate her students more in order to help them actually want to learn. Although she may have just been frustrated, but that doesn't mean that she is allowed to do what she did by calling those kids lazy. We know that it's how a teacher acts during class that contributes to how the students act and finish homework. I am sure this teacher was just really frustrated, but that doesn't give her the right to blog about students that might not feel like doing something on certain days. I feel that she should of just taken a deep breath and calmed down so that she wouldn't have said all of that stuff.

I think the teacher blew everything way out of porportion. Writing about her students was wrong and stupid on her part. Once it's on the internet there is no taking it back. If she wanted to complain then she should have just got together with her friends and talked in person. I think the cause of unmotivated students is unmotivated teachers. If a teacher acts like they don't care then why should a student want to learn? For me, when a teacher is energetic and seems to enjoy the subject they teach, it makes me more interested in their class and therefore I actually learn something.

For a professional teacher to go out and blog on the INTERNET was a very horrible choice on her part. In addition, to being a teacher you would think that you would realize that by going onto her blog someone would take offense to it and give her some consciences. The teacher going onto her blog and blogging how poorly her class was looks absolutely horrible on her not only because she trashed her class, but because that reflects on how she teaches her class. If she enjoyed her job a little bit more and got her students to be, motivated she would not have had this problem in the beginning with unmotivated students!

P.S. I forgot to mention that once you put something on the INTERNET it is there for LIFE. It will never leave. That is why you have to be so careful and smart with what you put on the internet.

I think that the teacher should be able to vent about her students. Students vent and criticize teachers all over the web so it should be fair for a teacher to do it as well. Teaching is a very stressful job and if teachers want to complain about their annoying and disrespectful students then so be it.

Well, I didnt get to read the article because it's not on the internet anymore. I'm just going to say that it's never really a good idea to put your dislike for someone into writing if you don't want them to read it. The teacher is an adult, and as an adult she probably should have known better than to blog about her students in a negative way. I mean, how did she think she was going to get away with it? I do think suspending her might have been a pretty harsh punishment, though. But she's an adult, and the school board had to punish her somehow. It's not like they can give her a detention...

The teacher was right for what she said. If the students show no effort or proof of work, they are lazy and unmotivated. There is no nice way to say it. I would've done the same. Shoot, I do the same. I vent about my group mates or teammates to others all the time. I can't stand when other get credit when it's not deserved. Why should they get the glory when they show no effort and use other students for their own gain? They shouldn't! I work for what I want or need. I hate those who just get by through riding the coat tails of others.
