Read this short blog about high expectations. Do the teachers you see every day have high enough expectations of you? Are they too high? Are high expectations helpful or frustrating?

Most of my teachers have high expectations for almost all the students they teach; including myself. In my personal opinion, I think that this is a good thing. When teachers hold high expectations it causes students to strive toward achievment and success. Sometimes I feel that the expectations are too high, but I know in the end they are always helpful. Everything that I do and learn in high school will pay off in college and my future career. I am thankful that some of my teachers have high expectations and always push me to do my best. At times the expectations are frustrating, but in the end it is always worth it.
Yes, teachers have high expectations for their students, I say this from most of my previous teachers. I am not saying this is a bad thing because it is important that students are pushed to learn as much as they can/want. This will help me as a student to prepare for my future and college. Some teachers push their studends a little bit to far where there is a lot of homework or many projects at one time. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it puts a little too much stress on the student. It is a little bit irritating at first, but people tell me I will be thankful in the future. I am just glad to go to a school where the teachers care about the students.
I think most of the teachers in Redfield have high expectations, because they are pushing their students to do well on their standardized tests, and help them prepare for college. I think some teachers could have higher expectations, by giving homework once and a while, but not ever giving it. Some teachers I believe give too high of expectations, by giving us a lot of homework on church night, or when they know that we have activities that night. High expectations are both helpful and frustrating. Some nights a teacher may give us a lot of homework of stuff that nobody understands, which can be very frustrating, but at the same time I know that it is helpful, because they are only trying to prepare us for the biggest challenge in life...COLLEGE!
I feel that teachers have high expectations for every student they teach especially myself. My brother was probably one of the smartest kids in his class and I feel that teachers think that I need to live up to that. However, that expectation is very high and it is quite tough to fulfill, but I have tried my best and I hope that those teachers see that. Also I sort of enjoy the high expectations that teachers set for me because they help me challenge myself and be the best I can be in everything that I do and I feel that all of those expectations will definitely come in handy in my future whether it's in college or at my future job.
Some of my teachers have VERY high expectations of some of us. Not all though, some have too low of expectations. High expectations can be very frustrating. Some teachers think that we can handle a ton of homework in one night and we can handle having things to do and do all of our homework even if we have a lot of homework in a lot of classes. They think that we have nothing else going on and we can do everything easy, and it's not. I like my teachers to have high expectations of me because it helps me sometimes, but when they are so high where I can't keep up, I don't enjoy it too much.
I think the expectations that teachers have of me are perfect for me. They give me goals high enough to reach, but not so high as to make me feel like I’m stupid and incapable of reaching my goals that I have set personally for myself. I know for many students that these expectations can feel kind of high, even though they are within their reach, but just A Lot more work. I believe that expectations may feel too high is that though a majority of teachers may not expect much, when you add all those expectations together, they can feel overwhelming; especially when you start considering the fact that kids may have jobs, a lot of homework (and it would seem like even more if they aren’t a fast worker), chores at home, and other daily responsibilities that can make it all feel like a lot. The problem with a teacher’s expectations seems to be: that they aren’t tailored to each student. They don’t seem to be realistic goals for every student, Yes a student may be able to succeed and reach that if they didn’t have any other responsibilities but many kids try to incorporate more things into their lives to help them be healthy and responsible while still trying to succeed as much as they can.
It is absolutely necessary for teachers to have high expectations. If you encourage students to aim for mediocrity, there will be no one who stands out or strives to succeed to their fullest potential. If teachers constantly tell students that they don't expect their best effort, their will be more kids doing poorly in school. Sometimes, I will admit that some teacher's high expectations frustrate me, but I know that it is in my best interest. I have heard from many previous students that many of the teacher's have done a terrific job preparing them for their college career.

Yes, I think it's a good thing that not all but most of the teachers have high expectations of all their students. If the teachers didn't have high expecations then I don't think some of the students would actually try at school. Although, it is sometimes difficult for some students to achieve the expectations for some of the teachers they try their hardest. Everything that we learn now in high school will help us in the "real world". We all know that every teacher wants the best out of their students and to learn a lot before they go to college. So, overall I think it's a good thing that teachers have high expectations.
