Creativity in School

Read this article about creativity in school. What do you think? Are we focusing enough on creativity in our school? Should we be?

We are focusing enough on creativity. I mean the students were the ones that painted all the whinny the phoo stuff and other stuff. Because we do have a art clas were kids can show there cretivity. so i am pretty sure we have enough cretivity.

I think all kids have creativity because of their emotions running that they can't express around others.

I think creativity is an important part of school and the workplace. It gets you ahead and noticed. Just think, you write an amazing essay in a class your teacher obviously notices your work more than the other students. Creativity is incredibly important. I think that our school is pretty focused on creativity. We have music, art, sports, and theater. Our school isn't associated with dance, but our town has that too. Creativity is something that should be focused on and noticed.

I think that creativity is definitely stifled by schools. There just aren't enough opportunities to explore and display creativity. I agree with Sonja that expression and creativity should become more of a focus. Most of the time I feel like the projects are so structured and boring that I cannot express myself through them. Most of our schoolwork feels like unimportant busy work that is rushed and stressful. This is really too bad because a lot of people would probably succeed more in school if they were able to individualize their work, to use their own methods to accomplish the goals, and to be free to find a way to make the important information interesting and significant to them. Creativity, I think, is also more important in the long run than just being book-smart. It sucks because if we don't use it, it seems like we lose it.

I dont think our school has enough creativity in it. Im not saying that everyone in this school is uncreative. I know im not the most creative kid in this school. I Have also realized that our school doesnt focus on creativity taht much either. All they worry about is our disgusting lunches and how kids act. Really we only have like three art classes and not many people take them. If it was required we would have many more creative people in this school. I see that most of the creative people are still taking as many art classes as they can. Some people like Elliot Millar it is taking him somewhere. He has a lot of money through scholarships because he focused on creativity. He took it as far as he could and it took over from there.

No, we're not. Sure there are art classes, but if you're not good in art, what's the point of taking them? I suck at art, but I love to make things, but in what class do we honestly make things? All we do is write papers, take notes, take tests...how is that creative? In my opinion, there should be some program (just like sports, band, whatever) that focuses on the creativity of the individual taking it. I'm in band, but I really don't consider that being creative. To me, being creative is using your imagination (*laughs*) to make something, whether it be art projects, a story, or just some freaky dance to Haddawhat (you know the Pepsi commercial where everybody's bobbing their heads? that's the band singing). Schools should focus more on creativity and less on educational projects...because let me tell you, coloring in the Berlin Wall is NOT my idea of creativity and pleasure.

Other than in our English classes, I don’t think that we have enough creativity in classes. With math, science, government, history…there’s not much creativity that can be done. It’s all straight forward, but there are classes in which creativity could be used such as Journalism, English, art, jazz band, Psychology, Sociology, and Spanish. In these classes, creativity could be used and should be a part of your overall grade. I found it sort of confusing how when hiring someone, a businessman doesn’t look for creativity but wants people who are creative in work. ?? Think about that one…

I don't think that we include enough creativity in our school system. We focus way to much on uniformity and don't really develop students. I don't think we have this creativity because of the area we live in and the push to get everything in. There is not enough time to be creative. I wish our school would focus more on creativity.

Brady- what about those who are creative in other ways- writing, math, FACS and technology or ag related ways? Where do they get to show their creativity. No all creativity is art related. What about creativity in sports?

Creativity is a vital asset of life. If we weren't creative, we would be just a bunch of plain old robots. Creativity allows a person to express his or her own feelings in addition to getting noticed, may be for a job or just a loved one. However, I believe that our school isn't the biggest supporter of creativity. We have dress codes and get in trouble for acting out of the ordinary. Yes, there is a point where people need to enforce the rules, but I think that we could at least have a little more leeway on what we do.

i think there is not much creativity in this school only a handfull of people show that they are creative and i think they should show how creative they are

I do not believe that creativity is expressed well enough in school. Only in English and Art are the only classes in whcih creativity can be expressed, and even then you have guidelines you have to follow, limiting your creativity.

While we do focus a little on creativity in our school, I don't think that we focus enough on it. I definately think that we should encourage kids to be more creative and different from everyone else because then I think we will get more excitement and willingness to do work in school out of students. Creativity also helps kids to become more expressive and personal in their work, and I believe students will turn in better work that way. We are too uniform and a kick on creativity in learning would also make school a little more exciting.

Creativity in school and at work are extremely important. It helps me notice you! It also creates an intersting place for the people who spend a lot of time there. A plain, dull workplace or school could have a negative effect on the people that spend time there, whereas if the school or workplace was colorful, fun, and inviting people will enjoy the time they spend there.
