high school sports participation

According to the National Federation of State High School Associations, participation in high school sports is at an all time high. Their survey results are astounding: over 7 million high school students participated in sports last year. Why is participation on the rise? Take a look at the results, which are national and state data, and tell me what you think.

I think it's probably due to the fact that more colleges are looking for a more well-rounded application/resume when they go through the selection process. And ya know, with the increasing obesity rate, it ain't no big surprise either. More people are falling into the death trap of obesity, and yet the number of active students is also increasing. Coincidence? I think not!

I think it's due to the fact that students are influencing their classmates and becoming good role models for younger kids and kids their age. Setting a good example as an athlete has many positive sides in the real world. Students are also starting to realize the obesity rate and what bad health can do to you. By going out for a sport you have a lower risk of getting serious illnesses due to obesity and being over-weight.

The adrenaline rush I get from throwing a touchdown pass, getting a tackle, or even just making a good block is all i need to work hard and participate. I think that participation is on the rise because kids are influenced by older kids. Sports also keeps people in better shape and the rising obesity rate and the want to "look good" has made more kids go out for sports.
