Reading

So are these kids right? Are students reading only because teachers force them to?

I've got to say, that's a load of BS. Apparently elementary is the new 'old', because I've loved reading since I can remember being able to read. Electronics bore me within an hour or two, though I'll admit to being adicted to the computer. But I can sit for a full day and just read a good. Heck, I read stories off the internet. Probably not good for my eyes, I know. Kids who say stuff like that are either dummies that have never read a book, or they have reading problems and mask them by saying how they'd rather be dong something else. Or they're just plain dummies who don't like books. Surely everyone as at least /one/ book out there that they love. Richard told me he read Where the Red Firn Grows and loved it. Which is a very good book, but I admit to being a tad surprised that he read it. People who don't think they like books just need to find that one special author or genre that they like. Some nerdy people, like me and Ashley and Sheila and others, like to read just for the sake of reading. On a good week, I can read a book a day and retain all the characters and plotline and all the good stuff. So those kids can't truthfully say nobody likes to read.

I agree with Jamie. I love reading. though it seems that now days I don't have a lot of time to read because I get a lot of homework from some taechers, not naming and names. ahem *cough Mrs. Hansen, cough cough.* But in all seriousness I truly appreciate a good book. I love the escape I get from reading, because honestly the real world is terribly depressing, boring and dull. FYI I post as anonymous because I can't remember my account info. Jenae

HAHA!!! This made me laugh more than the email one xD
Naw, gotta think about how old the kids are I think. They sound like they're 8 or 9 to me...I love reading, and I always have. Dreamt about being a librarian for a long-ass time (although it's not quite a full-time job, lol).

I'll say this: some kids just aren't into reading as some other ones *cough cough Jamie cough* are. They get bored with reading and will look to electronics for entertainment. I'll also say this: I haven't read a book for my own enjoyment since at least the beginning of December (I think?). I take blame for that, though. Been too busy with papers and school that I haven't been interested in reading, lol, so right now, I think I might be one of those kids. I'm taking a break from reading (gasp) so right now I agree w/ them fully. Reading is for pansies.
Give me 'till tomorrow to change my mind ;D

Reading is not to bad. it isjust like a movie but, in a book and who have to use more then a couple brain cells. i just got done reading the outsider's it was a pretty good book. it was about greaser's and soc's fighting. Then a greaser kill's a soc. but if you want to find out more read the book.

I don't agree. At all. Reading is one of my favorite past times, it's a way to get away from everything. You go into a different place and escape from everything that is going on in reality. I just got done reading The Secret Life of Bees and it was an amazing book! And I didn't read it because I was forced too, I read it because I wanted too. I believe that "these kids" have not found a good book. They need to find something they relate too or are interested in in a novel, and they won't be able to put it down. Believe me!

Ok really just because a teacher tells me to i dont do half of what teachers tell me to do... thank you procrastination. but still i read for my classes and i read books for fun... call me a nerd if you want but i like reading mostly fiction and science fiction books but even if its not real its still fin to read like beans said its just like watchin a movie but you get to choose what the caractors look like, sound like and more deatil than you get in shows or movies.

Today most kids don't have time to read because they are involved in sports or clubs. I don't always like to read, but if I find a book I'm interested in I can't put it down. Right now, I'm starting to read The Great Gatsby because I read a summary about the book and I wanted to read it right away.

Reading can be exiting because you can escape from the world and live in dream world for a few hours or more each day. As a little kid reading books is really fun because you can get prizes for reading and that is always fun.

I’m just glad that I know how to read because some people aren’t that lucky and its nice to know what things say.

haha i just read some of these comments and take a vote out of the entire school and wee what percentage of the kids read for fun. i am almost 18 years old and i have read one book on my own which wasnt so bad btw but i usually never read the assignments that i am assigned to read i hate it for the most part. i am not trying to make fun of the people that read for fun but take a vote i would bet 90% of high school kids would tell you that they can think of something funner do do than sit down and read a book on a nice summer day.

Honestly, I probably wouldn't read if it wasn't for teachers forcing me to read for assignments. Reading is nota of my forte. I would way rather spend a day being active or even drawing. I do admit though because I don't read as much, I do struggle in reading.
