How worried are you about H1N1?
Tomorrow, several of the students of Redfield Public will voluntarily receive the "flu" shot for this year's influenza strains and for the H1N1 virus, in hopes of buliding an immunity to those viral diseases. Yesterday, on the news, a reporter stated that 30% of the deaths in the Unites States from H1N1 were in healthy people with no underlying health conditions. It seems that there is much information and misinformation flying around about the severity and dispersement of the "flu." People are scared and desperate for the vaccine, while others just shrug the whole idea off and go on with life. If the "Flu" or H1N1 is so life-threatening, then why are schools still haveing athletic events, concerts, practices and plays, businesses still having meetings and traveling and people still shopping in malls and traveling on public transportation where the virus could spread. We have only seen one wave of illness; the winter season with all of its colds and "flus" is not here, yet. What will happen then? What is your opinion about this whole H1N1 subject? Anyone have any links on the topic that they would like to share? Here is what the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) says about H1N1.

Well, we haven't been affected by it yet. There have only been a few deaths in South Dakota and people are normally quarauntined right as soon as they think they have the disease. I really think that the media is making this way bigger than it actually is. I mean people die from pneumonia everyday too, but do they report that? Of course they don't. They only report on it because it is a new and hot topic that people are interested in. All the other diseases are so common and not interesting enough to report on. I think that when the flu season actually kicks in, people will be way more cautious. They will probably require people to wear those masks in the malls. Or they could even cancel school events until the epidemic is over, or says the CDC. I mean, i am sure that there is diseases like this all year round, so why only report it around now? Because people are ignorant and assume that it is only around this time of year that it is here. Here is a statement, it has to come from somewhere, it didn't just show up from thin air.
Well here in South Dakota ,especially Redfield, no one really gets that sick and if that were to happen that person will get better soon. We have had a couple of kids that have had H1N1 ,but for the most part no one else really has been sick with it. Actually I think that Redfield High School has already had the sickness. Remember the day that Redfield High School was out over 100 kids. I think that was the week that we got a sickness, but now we are finally through. Besides if people were so worried about H1N1 kids more than likely wouldn't be in school, riding public transportation, and going to athletic events. Basically I am not to worried about the H1N1 because there hasn't been many deaths here in South Dakota.
No I'm not real worried about H1N1. I feel that if we take care of ourselves and wash our hands and get good sleep, we'll be better off and have a less chance of getting it. Even though that there have been people die from it, there has been people that have died from influenza and on a whole we're all fine.
I think people are overreacting when it comes to the whole H1N1. My feelings are that getting one flu shot might not be super harmful for your body, but getting two vaccines this year might be. By putting these vaccines in your body, you are not allowing your body to strengthen itself by fighting off any winter cold without assistance. Also the flu vaccines are not one hundred percent effective because it is last year's virus. By this year the virus has mutated into something else entirely and can not be effectively fought off using an outdated vaccine. As for people maintaining some sense of normality during this epidemic, I've got to sat, thank God. If we start shutting down the malls and public transportation what's next? Super markets? Schools? Having to be quarantined to our houses for 48 hours while we wait for all of the infected to be rounded up and shipped to a hospital so as not to infect anyone else? There have been previous outbreaks of the "swine flu" in the past, so why not use prior knowledge to help get this under control?
I'm not very worried about the H1N1 scare, even though i have recieved the shot. Many people have came down with this sickness and fought it off just fine. I think it would do a person more good to just wash you hands, and eat healthy. In my opinion H1N1 is overrated just like the avian bird flue was!!!!
Well as of right now im not to worried about it now because I have a shot now, but that doesnt mean that i still wont get it. It will just decrease my chances of getting. When we had that 100+ amount of kids gone in school that one Monday, then i was a little worried. There hasnt been many deaths in South Dakota from H1N1 and all it has to do is just run its course.I think that people tend to over react when it comes to this. Right now its basically just like getting the regular flu and thats how you have to treat it.
I personally am not too worried about the H1N1 virus. I have enough medical problems as is, and it isn't really worth my time to get worked up over it. The regular flu killes hundreds, probably thousands, of people every year, and we don't freak out about that. I believe people are just scared because it is "new" to the flu virus collection right now. The media doesn't help at all, though. A lot of people are believing anything they hear, and that isn't right because half of the information isn't even true. We should all really just take care of ourselves and make sure we wash our hands often and take precautions to lessen the spreading of germs.
I am not too worried about H1N1 because i got the shot. I also take a vitamin everyday and take emergen C in the morning. My immune system is pretty good so i dont get worried about getting sick. Also, it usually only attacks your symstem if your already sick. I guess if i do end up getting H1N1 i will deal with it.
I really have never been to worried about getting H1N1 because if you were meant to get it-you would. I got the shot which is suppose to prevent it so I should be good to go,but who knows the shots don't always work. I'm not going to stress about it to much, I will just do what the doctors say to prevent getting it and pray I don't get it.
