So this year the teachers and staff are learning about and implementing PBIS (Positive Behavioral Intervention Supports). We are rewarding the positive behavior with Pheasant bucks and referring problem behaviors and retraining teachable behaviors. Students who receive Bucks are rewarded through a drawing in which certain awards are selected. Is the program working or are students taking advantage of teachers just to receive Bucks? What are your thoughts? What behaviors are you seeing that you believe should be retaught correctly?

There is only one flaw with the introduction of the Pheasant Bucks: they are producing fake results. I have, since school started, heard numerous people say that after their name wasn't drawn for the prize, they stopped being nice and good because if they don't recieve anything for it, what is the point. This system is really only teaching us that you will always be rewarded for your kindness, when the reality is that you usually won't be. It is only producing results because all that most people want is a prize that they can flaunt to their classmates. In a way, it is not only producing fake and void results, it is producing negative ones. If people are only trying to be nice so they can win a prize that they can shove in everyone's faces, isn't that the exact opposite of the intended effect?
In my personal opinion, I think it is great that schools are trying to spread the acts of kindness, but the Pheasant Bucks aren't helping at all. Many students put on an act when they think or know that they will receive a Pheasant Buck. And when they do get one, they rub it in everyone else's face. Then when they don't get a prize for the Pheasant Buck they got, they only whine and complain about how they aren't going to be nice anymore. But, there are times when I think it is great because there are students out there that do tasks that should be rewarded. Its just the teachers who need to be more choosy about who they give the Pheasant Bucks to. I
I think it is kind of working. Some people are trying to be nicer and do good things so they can get a pheasant buck and maybe win a prize, but most people are just hiding the things they do that is bad. A lot of people are just pretending to do nice things that they wouldn’t do if no one is watching. Because of this I think overall it just isn’t working. People are only doing things when a teacher is watching and not because it is the right thing to do. It motivates some people to try to be nicer, but only some.
I totally agree with Maggie. My opinion on the Pheasant Bucks is that they are just bringing the fake side out in kids around the school. Kids try to be nice to classmates and suck up to the teachers, so that they get a chance at getting a Pheasant Buck and maybe a reward if their name is drawn. I also think that some teachers don't give Pheasant Bucks to the kids that they see are nice all the time, and only to the ones that do something nice that are usually in trouble. Also the ones that do an act of kindness and receive a buck then go tell everyone that they got one, which is not right if you just received one.
I feel some students are taking advantage of the teachers to receive a pheasant buck. Others are receiving bucks just because they did something kind with out expecting a pheasant buck. I think for the majority, that it is working because it's rewarding students for being kind and genorous. Even if they don't get a pheasant buck they still do acts of kindness because they are use to trying to be really nice, and that carries over to what they do everyday. It is a great way to motivate kids to be kind in and out of school.
I am skeptical about the Pheasant Bucks. Although it is a great opportunity to reward someone for being altruistic or for doing random acts of kindness, I agree with previous comments, illegitimate results are being produced. Some offenders are purposely trying to earn the bucks, or are rewarded for doing things that most wouldn’t qualify as “buck worthy”. It's pathetic that we live in such a Me-Focused culture where students have to be bribed with prizes to do good deeds. Our generation tends to be apathetic and also lacks enthusiasm when things aren't to their benefit; the bucks aren't helping this at all. THE BUCK STOPS HERE!!
I don't think the Pheasant Bucks are actually working because it has lead to a lot of fake behavior by people that don't usually act that way. Honestly, there are kids that just go and suck up to a teacher just to see if they can get a Pheasant Buck out of it and when they don't they complain about it. If you really want a Pheasant Buck that bad do something that no one else would do and get yourself one. Although when kids just do something like clean a board or try to impress a teacher then it gets really pathetic because then you hear Pheasant Buck from that student. That's the reason why Pheasant Bucks aren't working because students are just taking advantage of the teachers and realizing that if they act a certain way in front of them they will get rewarded for it.
