The Texas educational system is finding itself in a
quagmire of problems over its abstinence-only education plan for sex education in school. With the statistics it shows, the state has to re-evaluate what is going on. Read the article and tell me what you think. Comments?

Alright. So...I believe in abstience and all, but I honestly don't think schools should force it upon their students (no pun intended). It's really sad reading about the sex/birth/abortion rates in Texas, and considering how pro-life I am it pisses me off. Is there anything we can really do about it?
No.
You know what? I feel like being mean and saying this : let them go through with it. I mean, sure it is the school's problem (drop-out rates, the number of kids that end of leaving school for maternity leave), but apparently the millions of dollars they wasted on the program isn't working. So give up on it. Let the kids do as they please - because, let's face it, kids will be kids and if they get somethign into their mind, by God they're going to go through with it, no matter how silly or stupid or life-changing it is.
I think it is good that the government is at least involved in trying to get kids to not have sex but I believe the better approach is tho teach how to not only not have sex but also to have "safe" sex. Teens usually rebel at just about anything an adult trys to tells or force upon us so why not teach teens about protection. I think SD lacks in this area. There is not one class that is offered at Redfield High school to talk to kids and teens about sex and why to not to do it and how to protect your self if we are going to do it.
I admit that I am a teen that has sex but not one class have I seen at school offered a sex class. I think it should be manditory. Lucky I think I am one in few teens that protect myself if I am going to take that risk. We aren't taught about birth control and that condoms should be used everytime even if the girl is on birth control, because things always fail, and how we are better to wait. I think Texas is at least on the right page the maybe just need to change some ways they are teaching things. I believe many other states, like SD, should follow in Texas's foot steps and learn to help educate us teens.
I was watching a television show the other day that showed a student sueing the school about their bad sex ed program. In schools they show that abstinence is a good thing and that is the only thing. But they teach that condoms are bad even though they protect from some things. When they teach that condoms don't work, it tells the students that they can do it without and turn up with the same results as with. But that isn't true.
But also it is true that over 80% of teens who have sex before they are married wish that they had waited. Me, will I agree with abstinence, but schools need to teach the importance of condoms.
Ok, so sex is kind of an odd subject to teach, but I believe that we should be educated in how to at least be safe with it. Teens are going to have sex, whether you preach to not do it or not, but if you can at least educate in how to be safe, I think some good could come out of it.
It's not fair that the church is the only place discussing this in their CCD classes and what not, but really, they're just trying to scare people that they'll go to Hell if they don't. It is a scary deal, but that isn't the right approach I believe.
Teachers and parents can't just deny that its not a possible problem with their kid or students. Its the fact of life. Beating around the bush about it or just avoiding it over all isn't going to help any.
By reading the article about the Sexual Education in Texas, I inferred that Texas is basically wasting money. I'm pro-life and don't think that abortion should be legal. It is killing. But that is another topic. Most Texas teens are pathetic people so I really don't feel any sympathy for the people/taxpayers who are shelling out money for an uncurable cause. I just don't get why they can't wait until they are married. I don't think if you are mature enough to keep a child, you shouldn't be able to get pregnant.
