Digital textbooks- What an uplifting Idea

Would it be nice to have all the textbooks that students carry around in a digital form that would require only a computer or Kindle or even a cell phone to read?

Read the article and comment on what could you could do if our technology here in RHS were that developed.

The kids already use technology for everything, what is one more thing going to hurt. Our backs will hurt less because we do everything by internet. If we can carry less stuff around, most Juniors carry more than the amount that you are supposed to carry. You are supposed to carry about 10% of your body weight but nobody follows that. I carry more on a normal day to day basis. It is very difficult to go around carrying all of that if you have a bad back or you just are not used to carrying that amount of stuff... disks are so much lighter and if we had laptops those would be light too. I wish we could have the digital textbooks.

I think that digital textbooks would be nice for in school purposes, but i also like being able to use a good old textbook sometimes. Honestly i usually only have one textbook in my bag at a time so it doesn't bother me. We should each get our own laptop before anything else happens. Being able to use a computer whenever we wanted would really lessen the stress on us students.

Well, Judd that is your fault that you don't use your locker. Plus, when your bag doesn't even shut because you have too much stuff in it, it is kind of a sign that you need to lighten the load. Plus, you can just carry them in your hands like most students do, and then you won't be hunched over trying to balance all that weight on your back. Well, anyways back to the topic, I would like the digital textbooks, but at the same time, i like to actually touch a textbook and know that it will be there and not have troubles uploading or something. Agreed, it would lighten the load, but at the same time the school would have to spend way more money on laptops than they would on textbooks. The comparison is like $500 dollars for a laptop to like $80 for a textbook. Mrs. Frost uses the online textbook for Spanish II, but sometimes it doesn't upload, so what would you do then? You would have to wait to teach it at a later day or you would have to teach the worksheet without a textbook or examples. I would like the digital textbooks because of convenience, but at the same time, i like the security of the actual textbook.

If we were to get digital textbooks, we would have to buy laptops for everyone in the junior high and high school first. Some students don't have access to computers at home, so if you gave them a disk or website, it wouldn't do them any good when they needed it for homework, studying, and etc. Some students have difficulties keeping track of their things. If someone lost a text book, they could end up paying about seventy dollars, but if we had the digital textbooks the cost of losing one would be less expensive. Digital books might also cause a problem for some students and teachers who aren't very good with technology, but overall, I am convinced that digital textbooks would benefit our school.

I think it would be nice to have digital text books instead of heavy text books because every student puts every book in their book bag and that can cause your back to hurt or become dis located. I don't put all of my books in my book bag. I jsut put all the ones i need for class in the morning classes and i get my books for my afternoon clases after lunch. It would be a lot of money, but it would be nice to have books on the computer or cell phones. You won't have to worry about losing your text books or paying for them, instead you can buy a laptop carrying case instead. It would be a lot more easier to carry around than carrying all of your text books all day. I for one, would like the idea of having text books on laptops instead of carrying all 8 of your books until the end of school. Plus you won't have worry about stopping by your locker or freak out because you will be late.

It definitely would be handy to only have to carry around a laptop instead of a 18lb bookbag. I would much rather use a computer anyways for most topics. Journals would be way easier on a computer, and I do believe some would pay more attention. There would be those few that do get out of hand, but then again, there are always those few. I think this could help with understanding too. When you have books on the internet, there are normally more resources they create just because its easy. You can't have your textbook talk to you and describe how to use appositives for spanish! I think computerized textbooks are the way to go.
