In my opinion we should be aloud to have cell phones in school but not have them out. Kids should be able to have them on their person because it’s not doing any harm if it’s not out. If kids were aloud to have cell phones out no kids would want to pay attention to class. Students should also be aloud to use their cell phones in study hall and home rooms because you really don’t need to pay attention and if they text and not get their home work done its their fault and will be punished for it.

I don’t think people should be able to have their phones out during school, otherwise no one would pay attention during class. On the other hand during study halls and homerooms, I don’t think it would be a problem because if you have no homework what else are you going to do. Not being able to text during school or just overall use my phone during school doesn’t affect me very much because I don’t text very often, only when I get out of school. I think the only reason people text in school is because they get bored during class.

My opinion on cell phones is that you should be able to use your cell phone in certain circumstances. I use my cell phone in school sometimes. I think it is a big distraction but I also think that in homeroom or study hall that we should be allowed access to be phones. We should also get to have are cell phones on are person in my opinion. Cell phones should be allowed in school only in homeroom and study hall, as long as it’s on silent and you’re not bothering others.

I believe cell phones should be allowed to students when they are in a homeroom or study hall, but not during other classes. If you look around the school we have students that txt everyday during school, they are going to do it wheather our school allows it or not. If they want to sit and txt instead of listening, and getting a free education then that is their own choice. It will only hurt them in the long run so I believe phones should be allowed on your person during school hours just not in the open while a teacher is lecturing.

I don't think that cell phones should be allowed in school because I have found that there are few things so important that you can't wait until you get home or use one of the telephones convieniently located at the front of every single classroom in the school. I don't even have a cell phone, other than the communal family cell phone, and if you were to take one look at me, you would notice that I can still function just fine in society on a regular basis, even though I don't have a cell phone to be my security blanket. I think that people are getting too attached to their cell phones and that they just need to come to the obvious conclusion that they really don't need to be used during the seven hours you are in school during the day. I think it would be acceptable to have them on your person, but if you are not going to use them, why is so important to have them close by? There are a lot of flaws in the thinking that our generation is so special that we need to have a modern piece of technology next to us at all times. Seriously, just leave the phone at home or in the car or even in your locker, and I promise you that you will not internally combust due to lack of a cell phone

I honestly think that we should be able to have phones in school. But only be able to have them out during a study hall or homeroom. Because even though you have a study hall and your suppose to be working on homework. What if one day you dont have any homework then you should get the privledge to have your phone out if it is on silent and not bothering others and there concentration on their homework. We should be able to use our phones in study halls and homerooms without the teachers freaking out on us if we arent a disturbance.

I do think that students should be aloud to have there cell phones on in school, because yeah it's school and we dont really need them, but as long as our work gets done, and our phones aren't interupting the class there should be no problem with them. No, I don't mean just take them out in the middle of class and start texting people, i mean like when ever we have a "study hall" or some thing we could use them then... if they ring in class then thats another story but as long as work is done and not interupting any thing, and we are all focused I think that we should be aloud to have cell phones in school!

Cell phones in my opionion are a distraction, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be allowed. During our down time, I believe cell phones should be permitted to a certain extent. If phones become a distraction to others, then they just won't be tolerated anymore. Which then leads straight back to texting in our bags, pockets, hoodies, or behind the person that sits in front of us.

In the article it talks about students cheating on tests with them; obviously we're not going to be allowed to have them out on the desks during tests or quizzes.

The article also talks about harnessing the educational side of phones. Most phones, iPods or any other new form of technology come with the ability to download educational apps. These apps are good resources for multiple subjects.

Sure they're disturbances, but why not try it?

I think that it depends on how kids are using the cell phones. I don't think they should just get to get on their phones and start texting each other or calling each other. But with the new i-phones and blackberries, many students have access to the internet and could actually USE their phones for class assignment purposes. There are a lot of things that can be done on those types of cell phones that are for education. I think that phones can be a distraction - it would be impossible for teachers to be able to tell who is texting and who is using the phone for an assignment. It would be a distraction to be trying to work in class and someone sitting next to you pulls out their phone and starts texting or talking. So until teachers can actually be able to monitor who is using a phone for personal use or for educational use, it would be useless to allow cell phones in school.

I honestly think that we should be allowed to have cell phones in school. but i think that the days that we have like test or quiz we can put the phones away. during lunch hour while were eating and stuff we should be allowed to have our phones out or in our homeroom and study halls.

Cell phones are an inessential, distracting, and problematic item in school. I agree with Maggie because I noticed she stated there are phones in every classroom and in all the offices. Also, if there was an emergency, such as a fire, and people pulled out their cell phones, 911 would be swamped and unable to quickly and efficiently help. That is more of a problem in larger towns, but that is not to say it can't happen in smaller ones too.
On the topic of kids using them anyway, at least they will text less and less kids will text period. I know I don't feel the need to text during school, because I know I have to focus on what the teacher is talking about to learn anything.
So in my opinion, it is definitely important to have cell phones banned. If nothing else, kids will have to gain a fraction more knowledge than they would otherwise.

I agree with this article completely. The school is never going to get rid of cell phones in school unless they had a check everyday before you came into the building. I think the school should accept cell phones during a study hall or homeroom because they are not distracting any learning. It is the students own fault if they dont get any homework done. The teacher will punish them for that with a detention. I still think that phones should be prohibited during classes, but for study hall and homeroom, it should be the students decision.

As much as we would all love to be able to whip our phones out during class, we know that if cell phones were allowed in school, no one would pay attention during class. Everyone's test scores and homework grades would plummet tremendously. I guess it may be acceptable to have cell phones or iPods during study halls where you wouldn’t need to focus as much, but I still wouldn’t recommend it. Most of the things people text each other can wait until after school, or even when they see each other in the hallways. All in all, cell phones in school would not be a good idea.

This is an issue in school that I believe needs to be addressed. Cell phones have become apart of a teenager's lifestyle, and I believe do not need to be taken away during the school day. At the beginning of each class period the teacher could have a basket in the front of the room, and all the students put their phones in the basket. When the lecture is done, or they are done taking the test they can get their phones back as long as it is not on loud or being a distraction at all. In the hallways between class periods would also be a time students can have their phones out. Teachers and supervisors need to realize this is 21st century and technology and cell phones are a big part of our lives.

Cell phones during are a huge distraction! I think cell phones would become a huge issue if we were allowed to have them during classes. On the other hand, I think that is should be allowed in the hallways, homeroom, or even studyhall. In these classes the students are required to listen and pay attention, so i think that cell phones wouldnt cause that big of a deal. If that student has homework to be doing and instead is on their phone. That student will pay for his/her choice at a later time.
